I actually had to scroll to the top of the article and have another look at what that vegemite site was, I'd forgotten by the time I read the article.

No wonder they have had to paint the www.vegemite.com.au site with that promo, they should have just used the site in the first place, and measured the campaign success on the pageviews of the promotion section.

My favourite out of that list is probably ocean-road.com.au. The hyphen makes it decent enough for SEO, but lacks type-in as you mentioned, and would bleed value to the non-hyphenated name. The same goes for all the .net.au names in the list, losing out to the .com.au equivalent.

Would auDA or someone else consider a campaign "Remember the .au!" to strengthen .com.au sales?

Australians can be pretty patriotic and it might be fairly easy to appeal to that in a ".au means Australian" push. It would be in the interest of auDA, registrars and all of us .com.au owners as well.

Probably not enough money there to make it happen, but just sprang to mind after reading this post.

I can understand them not grabbing VegemiteCensus as it introduces a word that may be incorrectly spelled, but you're right - their long choice is simply stupid. The longer the domain, the more likely it is that someone will introduce a typo.

Why not VegemiteSurvey.com.au or something like that?

Realistically, anything longer than three keywords is asking for trouble.

Hi Isaac,

Its definitely early days for .au, and hopefully prices do incrase over time, but if registrants want to sell now they need to ask today's prices.

Even in .com the amount of names selling for 6 figures is very few.

I estimate the amount of .au domains worth $100k+ would be less than 100 domains, and most of those are owned by people who arent selling.
