Are all the good domains gone?

June 24, 2008 · Filed Under Domains

We’re very lucky in .au, with only 1.1mil domains registered there are still some great domains available for reg fee.

Every now and then I am going to post a list of good domains I’ve found that you can still pick up cheaply.

planefares.com.au
tourismcolleges.com.au
childcarecareer.com.au
samedayloans.com.au

What makes these names good? They are in high value categories (travel, education, employment, finance), these categories often achieve very high ppc prices. They also include terms that people are actually searching for, increasing the likelihood of type ins.

Type ins for these names would be on the low side, but when each click is worth $1+ you dont need a lot of clicks over a 2yr period to recover your investment.

These names on their own would be unlikely to achieve a high resale price, although as part of a larger portfolio of similar quality names would be desirable to other domainers.

So the answer is no, all the good names arent gone, I found those in about 20mins, granted I’ve been doing this for a long time now and I know what to look for. However, if you’re just starting out I hope this helps inspire you to keep digging.

I think .net.au names are good for SEO although then that means you most probably intend to develop the name.

If you intend to develop and then promote your .net.au you will lose typeins to the .com.au. If you have a serious project in mind I think its still much more desirable to pay a premium and acquire the .com.au or choose an alternative .com.au for reg fee.

However, if you are just building a mini site to promote adsense then a keyword rich .net.au for reg fee is a good option when the .com.au is gone.
