High Quality Names For Sale
The main .au sales sites have been talking up the amount of domains they each have listed, however, in my opinion quality is far more important than quantity. If anything all the low quality listings just make it more difficult to find the good ones.
I’ve recently spent some time reviewing the main sites and seeing what they have to offer…
Domainshed has guide.com.au with a minimum bid of $20k, I think its worth around the $20k mark, but that fact $20k is the minimum bid suggests the seller may want far more than $20k.
Domain Trading Post have a few good ones for sale such as units.com.au, watches.com.au and concerts.com.au, however unfortunately none of them have prices attached, at the right price those 3 names would all be great acquisitions.
Net Fleet has mail.com.au and business.com.au, with asking prices of $1million each, great names, but in my opinion the market has not yet reached a point where either of these names would sell for 7 figures. At the opposite end of the spectrum they also have Hockey.com.au listed for $6000 and all offers considered which I think is very reasonably priced. As a side note, mail.com.au is also listed here for only $125k which is much more reasonable.
Sedo has recently listed herbal.com.au for sale without a price.
Name Seek seems to have a lot more domains listed recently, although the quality seems to have gone down hill in my opinion, and only being able to see 10 domains per page makes it difficult to quickly review their full list.
Holiday Stays looks to have the same list as before, but they have added a new generic domains page here the downside is the majority of these names are .net.au, but names such as airfare.net.au and cinema.net.au are only $880 each, which in my opinion are better quality than the .net.au domains Pacific Octane is trying to sell as part of their case study.
Enetica and MelbourneIT, still seem to have a similar list of names as they did last time I checked.

I changed the domain categories viewing page to show 50 domains instead of 10….hows that for you?
Much better, if you could add column sorting and and a new date added column it would be even better
i’ll see what i can do. if you use the search you can sort by date. just hit the search on the main page without any value and it will bring up all the domains in the database. you can then sort by views, bids, date added, length of domain etc
Yeh, i agree there a lot of domains available but most of them are low quality. Even the high quality ones are hard to price. No one wants to pay too much… and on the other hand domainers are reluctant to sell the domains as they’re bound to appreciate with time.
I’ve already had a couple of offers on my domain freefood.com.au which is parked on Sedo but the last offer was only US250 (although i’m sure the person will go much higher than that). I wonder if they’re from Australia or from overseas.
Anyway, keep on up posting… i really enjoy reading your regular updates.
Thanks Ross, glad you are enjoying my posts.
Out of curiousity have you been able to lease any of the domains you have available at http://dnmarket.com.au/?
Hi Wade,
At the moment i haven’t leased any domains as of yet… but the site is starting to rank in google and i anticipate the traffic will increase… which will lead to domains being leased… it’s only a matter of time.
It’s also a good way for me to display my domain names so people can contact me directly rather than going through Sedo.
I’ve even created a direct sales letter… stating my value proposition.
We have tried to be stringent with listings, not so much restricting to only ‘quality’ domains but rather ensuring that sellers list their domains with realistic price targets.
So far we’ve politely asked 2 members to review their min offers and target prices for domains before listing them.
Unfortunately in both cases the domain owners blew their tops & said they’d take their domains elsewhere….
Keep your eyes on eBay too, I notice there are a few going up every couple of days.
There was a fantastic example of stupidity the other day, someone trying to sell “magicmoney.com.au” for $150,000. Whilst the website itself has a PR2 and decent age (1999 from memory) the sale was for domain name only. It just shows the market really has no idea of value.

Meanwhile some realistic sellers, with nice generic names were only asking $500 (I think tack.com.au wanted $500 .. great if you have a “horse tack” website!)
I suspect a lot of owners/speculators simply want to avoid selling for $5k when they could get $100k. As has been said, many of these domains will appreciate over time.
If there is no successor to the concept of domains (and the popularity of .com) within 15 years, that’s still a lot of time and shift in online technology to making single keyword .com.aus very, very valuable.
I have a few such as opinion.com.au, rating.com.au, pricetag.com.au, lends.com.au, etc - very hard to put a price on any of them IMO.
Hi Paul,
Nice blog.
Definitely worth keeping an eye on ebay, you never know what might show up on there.
Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Isaac,
Its definitely early days for .au, and hopefully prices do incrase over time, but if registrants want to sell now they need to ask today’s prices.
Even in .com the amount of names selling for 6 figures is very few.
I estimate the amount of .au domains worth $100k+ would be less than 100 domains, and most of those are owned by people who arent selling.
